‼️NEW PROCEDURE
About LIT Strong Words Contest online implementation

Dear partners, parents and participants,?

As we informed earlier, LIT Academy Board and Organizing Committee have made the decision to cancel all regional competitions planned for March 14th to April 11th, 2020. We based this decision on the current global coronavirus crisis (WHO pandemic declaration) and the risk of new outbreaks occurring after a recent increase in new confirmed cases in the Republic of Armenia.

However, to ensure the successful implementation of the competition in the current situation, the LIT Academy Board has developed a new alternative strategy, deciding to continue the LIT Strong Words Contest 2020 online.?

⁉️How will the contest be held?

Those participants who have not managed to post their performance in www.litcompete.net and those who posted but want to change their videos must send their new videos to tooyn.am/EKpv until March 22nd.

✔️From March 22th to April 2nd the judges will evaluate all participants’ performances and will choose 5 participants from each grade for each region (30 participants from each region) who will pass to the 2nd online stage.

✔️On April 5th we will announce the names of the students who passed to the 2nd stage as well as new poems/speeches that need to be learned for the 2nd stage. The poems/speeches for the 2nd stage and National final Contest will be the same and are different from the 1st stage poems.

The 2nd stage is also online. The participants will choose the poems/speeches, shoot a video and submit again for the evaluation till April 20th. Based on the evaluation results of the 2nd online stage, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places winner participants will be selected for each class. The 1st place winner participants will be invited to take part in the National Final Contest which will be held on May 2nd in American University of Armenia(AUA). They will also receive a full scholarship for Summer School. The 2nd and the 3rd place participants will receive a 50% scholarship. We will additionally notify all the participants who will pass the 1st online stage about video submission and registration.

However, all the participants of “LIT Strong Words 2020” contest will be provided with official certificates. We will inform about the provisioning procedure additionally.

For the organisers of “LIT Strong Words” Contest, the health and safety of children are a top priority. All these decisions are made to prevent and exclude all possible risks.

We thank our partners, parents, participants and all stakeholders for understanding and cooperation.

About Leadership Innovation Technology (LIT) Strong Words Contest

The Leadership Innovation Technology Strong Words Contest  was created in 2010 by a Peace Corps Volunteer and her Armenian counterpart living in Hrazdan. The goal of the LIT Strong Words Contest  is to create an opportunity for Armenian students in forms 7-12 to enhance their spoken English, critical thinking and public speaking skills by studying and reciting poems and speeches in English.Students also develop a valuable peer network of fellow English speakers from all over Armenia.

The competition consists of 3 stages that allow participants to showcase their knowledge of the English language.

  • Students work individually and/or with teachers to identify, understand, memorize, and develop the presentation of the poem or speech they select from a choice provided for their forms and then apply to LIT Online Stage.

  •  Regional Competitions are held and those who earn first place are invited to compete in the national finals.

  •  National finals are held in Yerevan.

Transportation is provided to regional and national contests, and there is no cost to a school or student to enter the contest.

Students are judged upon the accuracy of their pronunciation, interpretation and performance. This is not primarily.a test of memory.  The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport  encourages schools to participate because LIT Strong Words Contest is a powerful learning experience that helps students build confidence through healthy competition.  Lesson plans are created for each of the study choices so that the student can understand and appreciate the poems and speeches and learn how to talk about them in addition to their recitation.

LIT Strong Words contest is now in its 10th year and is in its 4th year of partnering with the Partnership and Teaching NGO (P&T NGO), the administrators of the contest, located in Goris and Yerevan. Over these 10 years, LIT Strong Words Contest has not only grown in numbers of participants, but in erudition. LIT Strong Words Contest is excited to continue to expand in community and participation in the upcoming years, while uplifting our communities’ students.
